? is the name of a short course designed for anyone with responsibility for running a school library who feels that they lack an understanding of the Dewey book classification system.
The course lasts up to two hours and covers
? An explanation of the Dewey system and particularly the simplified variant used in Cambridge schools - including colours and numbers.
? Discussion on the use of the Camskills Dewey Coder and Subject Searcher
? A discussion on how to label non fiction stock, followed by a practical session.
The course will be held on 25/11/09 at 14.00 in South Fens Business Centre, Chatteris, cost ?25.

Boosting essential skills: online help to develop school support staff
An online guide to help school leaders plan and implement training for their support staff in language, literacy and numeracy skills has been launched by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).
The Skills for Life planner brings together, in one place, a wealth of easy-to-access training information for the first time. Available online at http://www.tda.gov.uk/sflplanner the planner is part of the Government's Skills for Life strategy, which aims to raise literacy, language and numeracy skills among adults.
