Have you seen the relaunched Every Child Matters website?

The site merges the previous ECM, Sure Start and Local Authorities websites.  All relevant content and the best and most useful functionality from the three sites has been brought together to help professionals to access and use the information and materials they need.

Every child matters, the Government’s vision for children’s services, was published in September 2003. It proposed reshaping children’s services to help achieve the outcomes children and young people told us are key to well-being in childhood and later life.

These outcomes are:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well-being

This guidance, relevant for nursery, primary and secondary/post-16 phases of education, uses a provision and outcome model to provide examples of how the five outcomes could be achieved through English.

We hope that this guidance will help subject leaders and schools identify how this subject can significantly contribute to the Every Child Matters agenda and subject specific self-evaluation of the five outcomes.

Please contact Karen Smith, English Adviser, if you require any further guidance.
