Marilyn Simpson attended Hartford School from 1959 to 1965 and these are her memories of that time.

“ Hartford School was a fun place as I remember. I cannot remember taking to the lessons very well but I always remember the friendship then – as is now .
We had the Chambers brother and sister who lived at the top of Wyton Hill where once I rode my one brake bike ( called ‘Speedy’) down the hill and fell off!
Games and some P.E. were taken down the pits (Hartford field at the bottom of Sapley Road ) and if my Mum could not find me after School that’s where I was playing in the dens that we built.
Miss Perry was a tough but such a good teacher and apart from one boy we all respected her, although at the time we hated her for giving us a telling off.
Lunch was taken in the Village Hall – rain or shine. Mum, Babs Froggatt, Daisy Chapman, Doris Burnley and Mrs Harradine were our dinner ladies.
Christmas plays were also at the Village Hall – and what fun they were too! We often had pantos where the whole school was involved and I always remember the white pixie outfit, complete with hat that I wore for one play!
Football and Netball were always played in the playground together with swing bars and high ropes ( no safety mats in those days!)
My best friends were Christine Dodson, Kelvin Favell and many more, most of whom are still great friends.”
