The school Log Book.

The Board of Education required that "Every school must have - (a) A Diary or Log Book, which should be a bare record of the events which constitute the history of the school."

This requirement ceased eventually although Mr Alan Norcliffe (Headmaster 1986 - 2003) continued to keep a log up to June 1991. When interviewed, he said how much he regretted that he had not continued the practice during the whole of his tenure at St Johns.

The first entry in this old Log Book is dated June 1913. It lists the teaching staff under Headmaster John White. They were Francis Giddeus, Mark Hall and Harriett Peck. It also lists the teachers' salaries ranging from £45 to £72 pa.

The Headmaster reports that "A general and distinct advance has been made since the school was last reported upon" - by an Inspector of Schools.

The last entry in the Log Book made by Mr Norcliffe on 13 June 1991.

The entry reads - "Mr Dilley, St Peter's School, visited to talk to leavers."
