We had photographs from the old school showing pupils doing PE in the 1950s. I have written a report on similarities and differences.

The main difference is that girls did PE separately from the boys. The boys had no kit and just wore ordinary school clothes. The girls had to wear a vest top and shorts. They did PE outside, which looks like good fun. maybe they did not have a big hall.

The similarities are really the types of apparatus they used. In the photographs, they used wooden benches, ropes, climbing frames, ladders, metal bars to walk across and, sometimes, mats to land on.

Today we still use this equipment in an apparatus lesson.
