You were in trouble if your name found its way into this book!

Throughout the years, punishments included strokes, slaps and cuts. The instrument used was not stated although one suspects slaps were delivered by a hand and strokes and cuts with a cane.

The first entry in this Punishment Book is dated 3 November 1922. The punishment was delivered to a master Arthur Rapley for cheating and consisted of 4 strokes.

By current standards, offences were often relatively mild including such crimes as 'running home', 'wilful disobedience', 'talking' and 'impertinence'. And, listen children, there is an instance of a punishment for BAD WORK and another for 'not attending to lesson'!

Clearly, however, most of the offences were deserving of the punishment dished out. After all, we can't have children 'throwing wet snow' can we?

The only guidance offered is that "All punishments, however slight, must be recorded in this book."

The last entry in the book is dated 23 September 1959, when Leslie Wilgulki (?) received one stoke on each hand for 'spitting at infants'.
