Lady Olivia Bernard Sparrow had houses built where her retired servants could live which were called Reading Room cottages because she sent someone to read to the people living in them. Some of these houses can still be seen by The Green in Brampton and have the letters O B S on them and the dates they were built 1837 and 1862.

She wanted to improve the education of children and founded a girls school in Brampton in about 1836 in a building which is now called The Grange. She had a boys school built in 1843 by The Green which is still used as part of the Junior School. Lady Olivia paid the fees for poor children to attend school.

Other buildings Lady Olivia paid for included an infirmary, a chapel in George Street, Huntingdon, and a library for religious books.
