Need of Hall

May I draw attention to the lack in our county town of a building suitable for the staging of operas, concerts and plays. It is some years since a proposition was put forward to remedy this defect, and many who gave contributions and worked to collect funds for a Memorial Hall are wondering when their hopes are to be realised.

Throughout the difficult war years, and since, local enthusiasts have kept music alive, not only in the county town but in all directions radiating from it and a number of successful entertainments have been given for the townspeople in premises which are not now available.

Repeated invitations have come to us from Cambridge, Papworth and other places, but in our own town there is still no provision made for this kind of activity, and residents of Huntingdon have to seek hospitality in neighbouring towns and villages for the pursuits which were born in and emanated from the county town.

May we not be given more news about the Memorial Hall and be told of the difficulties which prevent its being built? After all, hundreds of smaller towns and villages, labouring under the same difficult conditions, have been equipped with buildings, which, if not palatial, are at least satisfactory, and show an attempt to meet the needs of the community.
