The following search engines are among those that state they provide links only to sites that are safe for children:
Ask for Kids
Ask for Kids uses natural-language technology that allows children and young people to ask questions and perform web searches. The service 'combines human editorial judgment, age-appropriate feature content and filtering technology to enable kids to find both relevant and befitting information on the web'. It also features 'study help' in a number of curriculum areas.
The Awesome Library 'organises the web' by providing access to more than 35,000 reviewed resources categorised by subject areas and 'hot topics'. The site is primarily aimed at children, young people, teachers, parents, and librarians.
KidsClick provides a web search service for children by librarians, offering both keyword and directory-based searching.
Yahoo! Kids is a browsable, searchable directory of internet sites for kids, alongside various other 'fun features'. Each site has been checked by an experienced educator to ensure the content and links are appropriate for children aged 7-12.
Neither BECTA nor Cambridgeshire Education ICT Service can take any responsibility for the content of these sites.
